2026 to 2027 deadlines
- Quarter 1, 6 April to 5 July 2026: due 7 August 2026
- Quarter 2, 6 July to 5 October 2026: due 7 November 2026
- Quarter 3, 6 October 2026 to 5 January 2027: due 7 February 2027
- Quarter 4, 6 January to 5 April 2027: due 7 May 2027
- Final Declaration and balancing payment: 31 January 2028
Payments on account still apply
MTD does not change when you pay. If you make payments on account, they are still due on 31 January and 31 July.
Calendar quarters
You can choose to use calendar quarters (1 April to 30 June and so on) instead of the tax year dates. The update due dates stay the same.
2027 to 2028
From 6 April 2027 the threshold drops to £30,000, so many more tradespeople join. The pattern of deadlines stays the same: 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May.
How to never miss one
- Set reminders a week before each deadline
- Record jobs and expenses the day they happen
- Check your figures at the end of each quarter, not on the 6th
